Appearance of The First Pure Supercapacitor Ferryboat
Big news! Recently, the first pure supercapacitor ferryboat - “New Ecology” has been created and successfully arrived at the Chongming district of Shanghai, China.
The ferryboat which is 65 meters long, 14.5 meters wide and 4.3 meters deep, can accommodate 30 cars and 165 passengers. Why does it catch media’s attention?
It turns out that this ferry is the first ferry in the world to use supercapacitors as power to travel on the water. This is not only a major advance in supercapacitors, but also an advance in technology. It should be known that the power of the ship is mainly driven by the diesel in the diesel engine, and the engine is used as an auxiliary to propel the ship to travel on the water.

The supercapacitor has a fast charging and discharging speed, it only takes a few seconds to a few minutes to fully charge 95% of the power. However, the larger the volume of the supercapacitor, the larger the capacitance, and it will take longer to be fully charged. With the same volume, the supercapacitor has a larger capacitance than ordinary capacitors, reaching the Farad level. However, compared with batteries, the electric capacity of supercapacitors is still too small, so batteries have always been the mainstream in power vehicles.
The appearance of the first pure supercapacitor ferry, "New Ecology", made people see the potential of supercapacitors. The power density of supercapacitors is higher than that of batteries, the energy loss during discharge is small, the charging speed is fast, and it can be repeatedly charged for hundreds of thousands of times without causing pollution to the environment. It is an ideal green energy source with stable performance and will not explode during use.
The pure supercapacitor ferry "New Ecology" is used to travel to and from Changxing Island and Hengsha Island. The fast charging speed enables the "New Ecology" to charge enough electricity to sail back and forth between Changxing Island and Hengsha Island in a short period of time. Therefore, it is more appropriate for the "New Ecology" to use super capacitors as power.
The "New Ecology" is powered by a super capacitor and is charged by a charging device. The battery can be charged in 15 minutes for 1 hour. It only takes 10 minutes to reach the destination by ferry from Changxing Island to Hengsha Island, which is fast and environmentally friendly.
Supercapacitor buses have used supercapacitors as power to drive, and today there are pure supercapacitor ferries that use supercapacitors as a power source to drive on the sea. It is believed that in the near future, with more advanced technology, supercapacitors can replace batteries as a power source and be used in more fields, contributing to environmental protection and energy shortages.
