Analysis of Capacitor Failure
Capacitor failure means that a capacitor cannot work normally during normal working hours. The main parameters of capacitors are capacitance; loss value(also called DF value); withstand voltage; insulation resistance; and leakage current value. Usually, when many customers use capacitors, they will consider what will happen if the capacitors fail? So what happens when the capacitor fails?
The common electrical performance of capacitor failure mainly includes the following:
1. The capacitor has no capacitance. The physical cause may be a detached solder joint. The mechanical reason is that the internal structure of the capacitor is destroyed.
2. The capacitance value is high or low.Every product has a temperature coefficient. That is, within the specified temperature range, its capacitance value change rate. That is, every time the temperature changes by one degree, the capacitance value will fluctuate a little. Only when the detection temperature standard is stipulated can there be comparison. The general standard temperature is 25°C.
3. The capacitor is broken down and short-circuited. The reason is that the capacitor is overloaded, and the voltage and current that the capacitor withstands exceeds its peak value.
4. The DF value (loss value) is too large. The capacitor consumes silver during the production welding process. Or the capacitor chip is contaminated.
5. Low insulation resistance. What affects the resistance is the storage environment. If the capacitor is stored in a humid environment for a long time. The insulation resistance value will drop.
The failure rate is an important parameter for the quality and reliability of electronic components, and it has a lot to do with the application conditions in addition to the manufacturing level. When selecting a model, we should pay attention to the specification parameters and use it according to the specification.
